MINISTER OF EDUCATION IN A MEETING WITH PRIMARY SCHOOL PRINCIPALS FROM JABLANICA AND PCINJ DISTRICTS

12. June 2014.

Srdjan Verbic, the Minister of Education, Science and Technological Development, spoke yesterday at the great hall of Leskovac town assembly with elementary school principals from Jablanica and Pcinj Districts about the preparation and implementation of the primary school leaving examination. According to the Opinion of Minister Verbic and the competent persons from the field of education, everything is ready for the final exam and it should pass in the best possible way.

The meeting was a closed-door one, and the principals of primary schools had the opportunity to express their views on the implementation of the final exam in previous years, as well as their views on how the final exam for the eighth-grade students could be improved.

I think that the common impression is that we want the final exam to become a normal part of the school, and that will become most visible as soon as we stop needing police vans to move the tests around and when everyone begins doing their job, as things should otherwise be done”, Minister Verbic said.

Tomislav Simonovic, the Head of School Administration in Leskovac, informed Minister Verbic about the number of students and educational institutions in the area of Jablanica and Pčinj Districts, the problems that schools are faced with and about a reduction in the number of students, which causes a change in admission policies and redundancies.

Goran Cvetanovic, the Mayor of Leskovac, informed Minister Verbic about the activities that local authorities had previously undertaken in order to provide better conditions for the education of primary and secondary school students. Mayor Cvetanovic said that the local self-government monitored the activities of the schools and, in accordance with their capabilities, supported them.

Elementary school students will take the primary school final test on the 16th, 17th and 18th of June, while around 800 students from the flood-affected areas will be able to take it in August.
