MIGRATION WAVE HAS NOT SUBSIDED

22. September 2015.

Presevo – Over the last 24 hours, over 4,000 refugees from the Middle Eastern countries arrived in Presevo, while the competent authorities are now appealing for aid in footwear and warmer clothing.

The Secretary of the local Red Cross office Ahmet Halimi says that there are enough food and other necessities for the next seven days, but that warmer clothes and new shoes are needed.

“We, along with the UNHCR and “Caritas”, provided sufficient quantities of food and other things ... while warmer and new clothes and shoes are necessary," said Mr. Halimi.

Refugees come to Presevo via Miratovacko polje, which they reach from the neighboring Macedonia. They keep arriving in groups ranging from several dozen to a few hundred people and stay in Presevo for a brief period of time- to register themselves and rest a little, although there are those who immediately continue their journey to Belgrade and the northern borders of Serbia.

According to the EU Info Centre, the European Union (EU) delivered today to the Reception Center for Refugees in Presevo 900 blankets, 700 sets of bed sheets and 350 pillows, thus continuing the delivery of aid.

According to the statement, this is further aid that comes as part of the European Progress program, the value of which is 240,000 euros, of which the Delegation of the EU finances 78 percent, and the Swiss government 22 percent.

The aid is intended to address the urgent needs of refugees, such as waste disposal, water supply and sanitation needs, which were identified in cooperation with the Ministry of Labor, Employment, Veteran and Social Affairs and the Commissariat for Refugees.
