LUMPY SKIN DISEASE OF CATTLE EMERGED IN MEDVEDJA AS WELL

17. June 2016.

Medvedja – The lumpy skin disease, which is a viral disease that affects cattle, appeared in the Jablanica district, in the municipality of Medvedja, too.

According to Nebojsa Arsic, the Mayor of Medvedja, an emergency session of the Medvedja Municipal Council is currently in progress, during which a decision on the steps for preventing the spreading of the disease will be reached. Also, the committee for determining the location for the burial of dead animals will be set up at the meeting.

In the village of Stara Planina, which is situated along the administrative line with Kosovo and Metohija, seven cows, three bulls and a calf had been infected, and the animals were, in accordance with the regulations, killed on Thursday.

The veterinary station in Lebane, which covers the area of Medvedja, was banned from issuing any kind of certificates. The veterinary inspection banned the sale, transport and movement of livestock, while the entire Jablanica district was declared a vulnerable area.

“All the cattle will be vaccinated, since it is the only protection from the disease.  The surveillance of Medvedja households, which began ten days ago, is still going on, "said Zoran Ilic, the Director of the veterinary station in Lebane.

Measures for preventing the illegal transport of animals are being undertaken, while a continuous control and inspection of the Mutivode crossing, between Serbia and Kosovo and Metohija, is being done.

The vaccination of cattle in the infected area is expected to begin on Monday, while the owners of infected animals will be compensated for the damage.
