LESKOVAC AND MEDVEDJA AT THE FIRST SERBIAN-DUTCH FORUM ON WATER AND ENERGY

Мedvedja – Representatives of the town of Leskovac and the municipality of Medvedja attended the first Serbian-Dutch forum "Water and Energy 2019" in Belgrade, where more than ninety companies discussed the possibilities of cooperation with Dutch companies that are the holders of advanced technologies in the field of environmental protection, renewable energy sources and the processing and treatment of wastewater.

The said forum was attended by representatives of Leskovac, who included Branislav Stankovic, the Director of the Public Utility Company “Vodovod”, and Maja Milosevic- Milojic, the Director of CPPOV Project Implementation and Construction of Sewerage System Unit in Leskovac, while Medvedja was represented by Nebojsa Arsic, the municipal president, and Jadranka Ciric, the Head of the Inspection Office.

The purpose of the forum was the Government of the Kingdom of the Netherlands’ support, through the competent Miniseries of the Republic of Serbia, among others the Ministry of Environmental Protection, the Ministry of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure, the  Public Water Supply Company "Srbijavode", the funds of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development and the World Bank, to the local self-governmental units in the implementation of projects in the field of environmental protection, which include wastewater treatment and solid waste treatment projects.  

Dutch companies were interested in geothermal waters in Sijarinska Spa, and they also talked with the companies for the production of wastewater treatment plants, as well as with the company dealing with metro parks.

Henkel van der Dol, the Dutch Ambassador to Serbia, expressed satisfaction with the organization of the business forum and pointed out that the Netherlands was one of the largest investors in Serbia and that it was present in many sectors, but that water and energy sectors were among the most important ones for expanding cooperation.

“In view that we are a country that faces a specific number of challenges, we have something to offer to Serbia. We are a small country and a third of our country’s area is below the sea level. We fight against water and we live with water, "the Ambassador said.

He also said that the most recent major meeting with Dutch companies had taken place six years before, as well as that he expected the expansion of cooperation and more frequent contacts.
