INTRODUCTION OF MIGRANTS IN THE SCHOOL SYSTEM OF SERBIA GIVES POSITIVE RESULTS

29. September 2017.

Presevo - The first assessment after two weeks since the introduction of migrant children in the school system of Serbia shows positive results.

The staff of the "Vuk Karadzic" elementary school in Presevo believes that the teaching of both the newly arrived children and the children from Presevo upgrades the traditional teaching model.

The children of migrants do not differ from the local children in the classroom, either, although they are thought only general subjects, such as English, mathematics, arts, physical education and the Serbian language.

“I think that the children have accepted the local school well. My two daughters are here and I have planned for them to go on attending school until we are able to continue our journey,” said Sonja Mohamed, a former police officer from Iran, who, together with her husband, has been at the reception center in Presevo for eleven months.

There are currently 197 migrants at the reception center in Presevo, mainly those from Afghanistan, Iraq and Iran, of whom 42 are schoolchildren.
