HIRING NEW WORKERS FOR THE LEGALIZATION OF BUILDINGS

17. January 2017.

Belgrade – The Ministry of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure announced that it would hire 889 new workers in 130 cities and municipalities in Serbia in January, for the purpose of implementing the Law on the Legalization of Buildings faster.

The Ministry stated that they would make up about 85 per cent of the 1,046 lawyers, architects and civil engineers who would be doing legalization-related jobs.  The first task of the municipalities would be to promptly finalize, with an increased number of employees, the list of illegally constructed buildings.

The Ministry recommended to the local self-governments to give priority in employing to the unemployed registered with the National Employment Office. The Ministry set quotas for each municipality on how many decisions they should reach on a weekly and monthly basis. Also, the Ministry would control their results in terms of the number of listed buildings and the decisions reached.

As stated, new workers would be engaged only with the consent of the Government’s Commission for new employment and further labor engagement.

Local self-governments will significantly increase their revenues by faster legalization, since they will earn only from legalization tax 8.4 billion dinars, which is six and a half times more than the salary costs of additional workers, which will be paid out of their budgets.
