“GREEN IDEAS” COMPETITION OPENED

8. April 2016.

A competition of the National Forum for Green Ideas, which the Trag (Trace) Foundation, along with the Rockefeller Brothers Fund (RBF) and Erste Bank, organizes for the fourth consecutive year, was opened yesterday. The competition was launched with the idea of recognizing and supporting innovative projects based on the principles of sustainable development, by which significant social, environmental and economic impact could be achieved in local communities, while the environment would, simultaneously, be protected.

Eligible to apply in the competition, which will run until May 2, are individuals, associations, small businesses and entrepreneurs.

Three ideas with the greatest potential for improving the quality of life of the community will receive 5,000 US dollars each. The said amount is intended for realizing the ideas, while they will be further supported by means of consultation and mentoring with the aim of becoming competitive and sustainable over a longer period of time.

The attendees were, on behalf of the organizers, addressed by Biljana Dakic Djordjevic, the Executive Director of Trag Foundation.

“Over the past three years, nine successful business ideas were supported through the competition, while the invested funds of all previous project partners exceeded the amount of 100,000 US dollars. Apart from financial support, the winners of rewards will be provided with the additional support in the form of consultations, mentoring and exchange of experiences. We believe that the successful examples of previous winners in the development of sustainable businesses will encourage others to be entrepreneurial, and thus contribute to the development of their local communities, "said Biljana.

“We should highly appreciate the approach of male and female entrepreneurs who work in the spirit of green ideas, because they, apart from all the aspects that any business must take into account, pay special attention to the social and environmental impact on the community. We will try to assist them financially and by providing advice," said Vladimir Todorovic, an expert of the Erste Bank on social entrepreneurship and external communication.

Winners of the competition will have an opportunity to present their projects at the regional meeting  “Philanthropy for Green Ideas” of the Rockefeller Brothers Fund (RBF), which will be held in Serbia in July 2016, while the best  presenters will receive an additional 10,000 US dollars each.
