FROM BUJANOVAC LAKE TO ATHENS

13. November 2015.

Bujanovac, Athens – Ninoslav Kostic is the best known and the most successful sportsman from Bujanovac with an international career. If we bear in mind that he started running professionally a few years ago and that he is in his forties, his sporting results become even more significant.  In addition, Mr. Kostic is the only resident of Bujanovac who has ever dealt with  marathons.

Popular Niko took part in the 33rd. "Authentic Athens Marathon" on Sunday.  He reached the finish line in the Greek capital, which is the cradle of the sport, after 42 kilometers and 195 meters, in 4 hours and 26 minutes.

This guy from Bujanovac gets ready for marathon races by himself, as well as bears the costs of the competitions, although he is sometimes helped by the local self-government, where he works.

“The Athens Marathon is a great experience for me. I set off for Athens on Friday, so I had the time to do some sightseeing and get ready for the race. I signed up for the Athens Marathon in July and managed to finish the race, "said Mr. Kostic.

Ninoslav has always been going in for sports. He practiced football, volleyball and basketball, and is also actively engaged in cycling:

“I have been doing sports all my life, they are part of me, "said Niko.

He discovered professional running by accident, at the urging of Dalibor, a friend of his:

“I used to run to Bujanovac Lake and its surroundings every day.  Then, one day in 2012, I ran to Vranje, and farther to Prohor Pčinjski Monastery.  Then Dalibor suggested to me that I should sign up for the Belgrade Marathon. It was in 2013, when I ran only half-marathon, while the next race was 42 kilometers and 195 meters long, "said Ninoslav.

This was followed by races in Skopje, Sofia, Novi Sad and Belgrade again, Thessaloniki, Podgorica ... all the way to Athens. The next ordeal awaiting the marathon runner from Bujanovac is a race in the city where his career had started – the Belgrade Marathon, which is going to be organized next spring.
