"FRIENDSHIP BENCHES" PLACED IN BUJANOVAC

17. April 2014.

Bujanovac – The symbolically called “friendship benches” were placed along the promenade situated in front of the Cultural Centre in Bujanovac.  The activity at issue is conducted as part of the “We-Here” campaign. The placing of the benches was accompanied by a performance organized by the Civil Resource Centre from Bujanovac. The benches were placed for the purpose of bringing together young people of all ethnic minorities.

The “We-Here” campaign is carried out within the “Equalize Me” project ", which was launched in April 2013 and which has been going on in the municipalities of Presevo and Bujanovac, Vranje and Vladicin Han for a year. The aim of the project is to make the societies of the four southern Serbian municipalities more sensitive to the importance of the respect for minority rights, anti-discrimination and inclusion. The project deals with minority groups that are most discriminated against in South Serbia, which include ethnic minorities (Albanian and Roma), women, LGBT people and people with disabilities.

Apart from public awareness campaigns, the "Equalize Me!" project includes training of young people for active participation in society through journalism and activism, as well as the establishment and operation of local and regional teams of male and female professionals from the institutions and organizations dealing with minorities.

The "Equalize Me!" project is implemented by the "Generator" association, with the financial support of the EU Delegation to Serbia, through the EIDHR program.
