FREE DOCUMENTARY FILM CAMPS FOR YOUNG PEOPLE FROM ALL OVER SERBIA (DEADLINE: JULY 14, 2020)

2. July 2020.

"Free Zone Junior" issued a call for participating in the socially-engaged documentary film camps, which is open from July 1 to 14 for the young aged 15 to 26 from all over Serbia.

The camps envisage two age groups – for those aged 15 to 19, and for those aged 20 to 26, and they are divided into two legs. The first two-week leg of the camps will be organized in parallel for both age groups in Divcibare from August 9 to 23, and the second, seven-day leg, will be held in January 2021.

The program is intended for young people who want to explore current social contexts through film language and aesthetics and through making socially- engaged films.

The documentary film camps are part of a broader project called "Our differences are our strength", which aims to create the space for intercultural dialogue of young people from different ethnic communities, and to encourage them through the process of non-formal learning and creativity to nurture and promote respect for cultural diversity,  tolerance and understanding. Accordingly, the "Free Zone Junior" encourages all young people, and especially members of national minorities, to apply to the call.

Professionals from the world of film, among other things, will familiarize beneficiaries of the camp with various aspects of documentary filmmaking: screenwriting, dramaturgy, directing, editing, camera, filming and sound designing. Through the exchange of ideas and knowledge, and in contact with experts from various fields of film practice, human rights activists, stakeholders in the field of social and cultural policy, camp participants will get acquainted not only with the craft aspect of documentary filmmaking, but will also get to know the wider context in which their films have yet to be made.

The selected participants will also have the opportunity to make short documentary films that will be shown in the fall of 2021 at the Free Zone Film Festival, but also at 60 specially organized screenings in 40 places throughout Serbia. These film events will be held as part of a broader campaign to raise awareness of the importance of fostering cultural diversity and multiculturalism.

Interested candidates should fill in the application form, which is available on http://freezonebelgrade.org/konkurs-za-kamp/ , by July 14, in which, among other things, they will submit their idea for their documentary film.

A total of 30 young authors of the most interesting ideas for a documentary film will be selected to attend the camps.

Participation in the program is free, while all costs of transportation, accommodation, food and work materials shall be borne by the organizers.

During the camp of the socially-engaged documentary film "Free Zones Junior", the current advice and regulations of the competent institutions on the protection from and prevention of the Covid-19 virus will be respected. During the workshops, hand sanitizers, protective masks and gloves will be provided for the participants, lecturers and organizers of the event.

The "Free Zone Junior" program was established in 2006 with the intention of initiating talks in Serbia and expanding knowledge on the current social and political topics from around the world, and to contribute to the development of critical thinking in young people, increasing media literacy, tolerance, and breaking down prejudices and stereotypes.

The project "Our differences are our strength" is implemented by the B92 Fund through the program "Free Zone Junior" with the financial support of the European Union, which is part of the program “Support to Civil Society” of the Delegation of the European Union to the Republic of Serbia.
