FOURTH TRAINING FOR MEMBERS OF ETHNIC MINORITIES ON THE PROTECTION FROM DISCRIMINATION

At the end of June, the fourth workshop for representatives of the Councils of National Minorities was held in Bosilegrad.  The workshop was dedicated to the topic of discrimination and the role of the Office of the Commissioner for Equality and the Councils of National Minorities in the fight against discrimination. The workshop, which was held by Dusan Pokusevski from the Belgrade-based Centre for Human Rights and Danijela Stoimenov from the Office of the Commissioner for Equality, was attended by representatives of the Albanian, Bulgarian, Roma and Bosniak Councils.

The overall objective of the project “May Equality Become a Reality”, which was conducted by the Commissioner for Equality, in cooperation with the House of Human Rights and Democracy, was to contribute to the strengthening of human and minority rights in Serbia, while the specific objective was improving the procedures before the Commissioner as a mechanism for the protection of minority groups from discrimination.  

Upon project completion, the Commissioner issued certificates to all participants who attended the training and conducted local campaigns on raising community awareness about the problems of discrimination against minority groups.
