29. September 2015.

Bujanovac  - The first exhibition of the Simmental breed of cows, which was organized by the Veterinary Station in Bujanovac, was held in the municipality of Bujanovac.

The expert committee selected 72 cows out of 170 registered ones.

The winner of the first exhibition of cows was a two – year old cow of Avdi Osmani from the village of Konculj, who won the award of 30,000 dinars and the trophy.

The winner in the category of heifers was the cow of Zoran Trajkovic from the village of Sveta Petka, who won the award of 20, 000 dinars.

The best cow that gave birth to a calf for the first time was the one of Jakup Fejzulahu from Veliki Trnovac, who also won the award 20, 000 dinars.

The award of 20, 000 dinars for the best old breeding cow was given to Ismet Iseni from the village of Nesalce, which over the past year, provided 5, 229 liters of milk to its owner.

“We have been struggling really hard to change the breeds of livestock for years, since 15 years ago, there were 21. 000 heads of large livestock in Bujanovac alone, while that figure dropped to 8,000 last year.  There were 1.2 million heads of cattle in Serbia 15 years ago, whereas there are only 250,000 of them today, "said Miodrag Milkovic, the Director of the Veterinary Station in Bujanovac.

The catastrophic situation of the Serbian cattle breeding was caused by the purchase price of milk, which ranges from 18 to 22 dinars per liter in Bujanovac.

Last year, the municipality of Bujanovac invested 12 million dinars in the development of cattle - breeding and agriculture, while the figure will be increased by 20 percent this year.

The Coordination Body for the Municipalities of Presevo, Bujanovac and Medvedja invested 22 million dinars in the artificial insemination of cows in the three municipalities over the past five years.

The organizer of the exhibition at the village Levosoje, near Bujanovac, was the Veterinary Station in Bujanovac, in cooperation with the Ministry of Agriculture and the Center for Artificial Insemination from Velika Plana.
