FIRST CROSS-BORDER COOPERATION PROJECTS OF THE MUNICIPALITY OF BUJANOVAC WITH THE MUNICIPALITY OF LIPKOVO IN MACEDONIA

9. February 2018.

Bujanovac - The municipality of Bujanovac has not yet applied for cross-border cooperation projects, but it plans to implement first such projects with the municipality of Lipkovo in Macedonia as soon as it the possibility of cross-border cooperation with Macedonia is opened up, said Rahim Salihi, the Chief of Staff of the Mayor of Bujanovac’s Office.

Mr. Salihi said that an agreement had been, in principle, reached between the Mayors of Bujanovac and Lipkovo, Saip Kamberi and Erkan Arifi, and that the first joint projects would have to do with environmental protection.

“When it comes to cross-border cooperation, Bujanovac, as a municipality, is directed towards Macedonia, with which the possibility of cross-border cooperation has not been opened up so far. It is expected that cross-border cooperation with Macedonia will open up in the second half of the year, and our first joint project with the municipality of Lipkovo will be dedicated to the regulation of river beds in both municipalities, "Mr.Salihi said.

He said that the municipality Lipkovo had a great deal of experience in the implementation of cross-border cooperation projects, as well as that the two Mayors had discussed the implementation of joint projects two days before, during a visit to the Mayor of Lipkovo, Erken Arifi, to Bujanovac, which was the very first visit of a representative of the municipality of Lipkovo to Bujanovac.

“We provided the roles of developing joint cross-border cooperation projects to the teams of the municipalities of Bujanovac and Lipkovo.  We recognized good partners in them because they have a lot of experience, while the projects will be of benefit to both municipalities," Mr. Salihi said.
