FALL OF THE PRESEVO GOVERNMENT

25. August 2017.

Presevo – Yesterday, due to the lack of a quorum, the last, which was the fourth in a row, attempt at holding a session of the Presevo Municipal Assembly failed, whereby the fall of the current government and the introduction of temporary measures in the local self-government, which is mainly inhabited by Albanians, became official.

As reported by the "Presheva.com" portal, yesterday, August 24, was the deadline for holding the parliamentary session for the purpose of avoiding dissolution of the parliament and ending the reign of the current ruling coalition.

According to "Presheva.com", the Ministry of Public Administration and Local Self-Government is expected to reach, these days, a decision on dissolving the local assembly and the executive bodies of the municipal government.

Under the Law on Local Self-Government and the Rules of Procedure of the Presevo Municipal Assembly, the competent Republican body shall call early local elections within two months.

The municipality shall be run by the interim body until the new government has been elected.

Ardita Sinani (PDD) was elected the Mayor of Presevo on March 10, 2017

Until then, the local government, as part of a broader coalition, was led by the Alliance for Change (AP), headed by Mayor Sciprim Arfii.

Upon replacement of Sciprim Arifi, the ruling coalition in Presevo included the Party for Democratic Action (PDD), the Democratic Union of the Valley (DUD), the Democratic Union of Albanians (DUA) and the breakaway faction of the Democratic Party of Albanians (DPA).
