EDUCATION AND ECONOMY ARE PRIORITIES

20. May 2011.

Bujanovac – Michael Davenport, the British Ambassador to Serbia, is of the view that education and economic development are the most important issues for the municipality of Bujanovac.

Ambassador Davenport, who was in South Serbia for the  first time after his appointment, said upon his meeting with Shaip Kamberi, President of the Municipality of Bujanovac, that the topics discussed at the meeting included the municipality’s operational plan for various spheres, especially those of education, the school system and natural resources.

„We talked about the Coordination Body of the Government of the Republic of Serbia for the Municipalities of Presevo, Bujanovac and Medvedja’s work results and about the Coordination Body’s cooperation with the municipality of Bujanovac. I may say that I, now,  understand better the situation in Bujanovac, as well as the priorities that are realistic and important for  the municipality and how we could contribute to sorting them out“, Ambassador Davenport said

Mr. Kamberi said that he and the British Ambassador had exchanged opinions on the „political developments in the municipality over the past ten years and on the challenges and problems that were still to be solved in cooperation with the Serbian government and the international community“.

„Economic development is one of our priorities and we, along with the Coordination Body, shall try to intensify the cooperation with the Ministry of Economy, since Bujanovac is a municipality with a stable  environment and it is rich in natural resources, so that it can attract foreign investors“, Mr. Kamberi said.

President of the Municipality of Bujanovac said that solution of Bujanovac’s economic problems would have an influence on the easing of the crisis that was caused by faked asylum-seekers, among which there are many Albanians from the municipalities of Bujanovac and Presevo.

„It is in the interest of both the municipality, the Serbian government and the EU to solve our problems on the spot and not in the EU countries, while economic development is the most important issue regarding the solving of problems with asylum-seekers“, Mr. Kamberi said.
