CULTURE CLUB "SOKO": FOLK DANCING IS MORE THAN DANCING

9. February 2016.

Bujanovac – Although the “Soko” culture club from Bujanovac is one of the most recently established clubs in the area of South Serbia, it succeeded in achieving significant results in only two and a half years of its existence.

The work of folk dancers from South Serbia began modestly, since they had a small amount of funds but a lot of love and enthusiasm for what they do.

The "Soko" culture club was established in 2013 at the initiative of the President of the club and the main choreographer Nenad Mitic. The team, which began practicing diligently at the Bujanovac community center, was soon formed.

“Our repertoire includes ten choreographies that cover the whole territory of Serbia, as well as that of some former Yugoslav republics. We succeeded in mastering all the dancing in a relatively short time and started performing ", said Nenad Mitic.

The "Soko" culture club participated in numerous festivals both in Serbia and abroad. It currently has around 180 members, who are divided into four categories.

“While being on the road, we gained valuable experience and made lots of friends.  I think we managed to gracefully present the folk dances and tradition of this region, as well as to spread the art of folk dances from South Serbia. By performing and the presenting the culture of this region and positive energy, we try to justify the slogan of the "Soko" culture club, according to which "folk dancing isn’t just dancing, it's much more than that," said Nenad Mitic.
