COOPERATION BETWEEN PRESEVO AND ZRENJANIN

19. February 2016.

Zrenjanin - The delegation from the municipality of Presevo paid a visit to Zrenjanin as a guest of the city administration of that city. The aim of the visit was to familiarize members of the Presevo delegation with examples of good practice in the field of geographical information system (GIS). The visit was made as part of the "European progress" development program, while the experience of Zrenjanin would be incorporated into the work of the municipality of Presevo.

The city of Zrenjanin introduced GIS into practice five years ago and since then the system has been improved several times, so that it, now, provides considerable assistance in various fields of urbanism, planning, measurement and recording of the terrain, as well as in the sphere of providing information on a daily basis.

“The initial project was implemented only in the area of industrial zones, while, now, it includes the entire territory of the city and several different maps, which are available to the general public on the GIS portal, which is posted on the website of the City of Zrenjanin. We have shown our colleagues how we work, and following the study visit, they expressed confidence that the experience of our city in the development of GIS would be useful to them for making the project become operational in their municipality,” said Miodrag Bogunovic, the Coordinator of the GIS Center of the City Administration.

Funds for the implementation of the Program were made available by the European Union and the Swiss Government, as well as by the Government of the Republic of Serbia, while financial, technical and advisory support is provided to the customers. The Program is implemented by the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS) and the Department for Contracting and Financing the EU-Funded Programs (CFCU) at the Ministry of Finance of the Republic of Serbia.
