CHILDREN OF MIGRANTS REGULARLY ATTEND CLASSES IN SCHOOLS IN PRESEVO, BUJANOVAC AND VRANJE

2. November 2017.

Presevo, Bujanovac, Vranje – Children of the migrants from the Middle East, who started going to school in Presevo, Bujanovac and Vranje in September, attend classes on a regular basis, the relevant authorities said.

“Their number remained more or less the same, they are well accepted by their peers and there have not been any problems so far,” said Dragana Georgiev, an educational adviser at the Leskovac School Administration Office in Vranje.

She said that 80 boys and girls attended classes, and that their number minimally increased or decreased from the beginning of the school year, depending on how long their parents remained at the reception centers.

“One or two students come or go. We are now, exceptionally, having six new students who have just arrived at the Reception Center in Vranje and they will start going to school as soon as their medical check-ups are completed, "Ms. Georgiev said.

She also said that children from the Middle Eastern countries usually attended two or three classes, or those that they could follow, considering that they did not know the Serbian Language, but that all the kids wanted to be present at all the classes.

“Those children are of an age when they learn languages quickly and when they easily communicate with their peers, while all of them are included in extracurricular activities, "Ms. Georgiev said.

According to the Leskovac School Administration Office in Vranje, 31 children from the reception center in Presevo started going to the “Vuk Karadzic” elementary school in that city.

19 students started attending two elementary schools in Vranje, which are "Svetozar Marković" and "Radoje Domanović", while 26 students began going to the “Branko Radicevic” elementary school in Bujanovac.
