CENTER FOR DAILY STAY OF CHILDREN AND YOUNG PEOPLE WITH SPECIAL NEEDS OPENED

28. June 2010.

The Center for Daily Stay, which was established by the Association of Parents of the Children and Young People with Special Needs from Presevo, began operating last week. With the support of the Coordination Body of the Government of the Republic of Serbia for the Municipalities of Presevo, Bujanovac and Medvedja, the said Association adapted and adjusted the premises of the “Ibrahim Keljmendi” elementary school, so that they would be suitable for work with the children and young people with special needs.

Professional assistance with developing the program for working with the children was provided by the Coordination Body’s Office in Presevo. The program was designed by the “Center for Providing Assistance to Mentally Disabled Persons” from Vranje. Two graduate psychologists will be working with the children daily from 9 am until 2 pm.

Representatives of the Coordination Body visited the Association of Parents and talked with its President, as well as with the psychologists and parents whose children come to the Center for Daily Stay. The parents expressed great satisfaction with and gratitude to the Coordination Body, because it had provided assistance with implementation of the project, thanks to which their children, who used to spend most of their time at home, finally received professional  support and where they have a possibility of improving their abilities under good conditions.
