BUJANOVAC SPA SEEKS FINACIAL ASSISTANCE FROM THE GOVERNMENT

13. September 2011.

A special hospital for rehabilitation in Bujanovac Spa submitted to the Ministry of Health three projects for reconstruction of the roof, hydro therapy and mud treatment units and two floors of the building, as well as for procurement of medical equipment, which are valued at over 19 million dinars. The implementation of these projects would improve the services provided at this health resort in South Serbia.

It is necessary for the corresponding ministry to provide 5.9 million dinars for reconstruction of the roof and the hydro therapy unit. Also planned to be reconstructed is the mud therapy unit, the reconstruction of which would cost 315,000 dinars. Over three million dinars are needed for reconstruction of the first floor and for completion of the second floor of the building. A better quality of medical services implies the procurement of medical equipment, which amounts to over ten million dinars.  Patients from Vojvodina and other parts of Serbia, as well as those from Kosovsko Pomoravlje, undergo therapies which natural gas, thermo-mineral water and mud. This is the only spa in Serbia and in the Balkans where water, gas and mud are used for therapeutic purposes at one place. There are currently around 100 patients from all over Serbia that are being treated at Bujanovac’s special hospital.

There are 190 beds at the hospital. The capacities of the hospital aren’t sufficiently used since the Health Insurance Fund recently reduced the number of beneficiaries of the services provided by the special hospital.  Because of economic crisis, only 140 beds, on the average, are used. Due to austerity measures, the Health Insurance Fund daily sends to the special hospital 20 or so patients, instead of 35.  A single bedroom, the meals and four spa treatments cost three thousand dinars. A double bedroom costs 2,300 dinars, while a bedroom with three beds costs 2,200 dinars.
