BUJANOVAC: SMUGGLING IN HUMAN BEINGS RING BROKEN, SIX PERSONS ARRESTED, 90 ILLEGAL RESIDENTS DISCOVERED

According to the Interior Ministry, in the night between Saturday and Sunday, members of the  Interior Ministry (IM ) severed the ring of smuggling in human beings in Vranje and in Bujanovac’s village of Samoljica.  The illegal immigrants were the citizens of Afro - Asian countries.  Two policemen were injured during the operation.  

By order of the Deputy Prosecutor of the Basic Public Prosecutor's Office in Vranje, a decision on detention of six suspects for up to 48 hours was reached.  

The police stopped four vehicles (two cars, a van and a truck) with forged license plates, in which 90 people, who had illegally crossed the border between Macedonia and Serbia, were found.

On the occasion of stopping the vehicles in Vranje, when trying to escape, the driver of a car struck and injured two police officers, one of whom remained in the hospital, whereas the other one was released from hospital and allowed to be medically treated at home. All the vehicles were temporarily seized.

Charges were brought against five suspects who are under suspicion of having committed the criminal offense of illegal border crossing and smuggling in human beings. Three suspects were charged for the crime of forgery of documents and one suspect for an offense of assaulting police officers while they were performing their duties, it was said in the statement issued by the Interior Ministry.
