“BLUE TONGUE” DISEASE REGISTERED IN ABOUT 300 CASES IN THE PCINJ DISTRICT

13. October 2014.

Vranje - According to the data of the veterinary station in Vranje, the “blue tongue” animal disease was registered in about 300 cases in the Pcinj District.

“According to our data, around 300 ill sheep and a fewer less ill cattle were registered in the region. When presenting these bits of information, I underscore that the cases at issue had been confirmed by laboratory results”, said Dejan Trickovic, a vet.

He also said that it was a disease that was typical of the Mediterranean region, but due to a climate change, it emerged in our country, too. It is transmitted by tiny mosquitoes, while the livestock owners are advised to ensure their stables have nets and not allow their cattle to graze. On the other hand, there is no concern for the people, because the disease isn’t passed on to them, but the ban on the transport of livestock is in force.

The disease caused extensive material damage to the residents of the area, while local self-governments provide full support to professionals from veterinary stations.
