BIRTH RATE DECREASES IN SOUTH SERBIA DUE TO THE FEAR OF POVERTY

Leskovac, Vranje – According to the survey conducted on Jugmedia website, there was a drastic decline in birth rate in South Serbia because young couples were afraid of the additional costs that came with the new family member.

When asked "Why birth rate drastically declines in South Serbia," 68 percent of the respondents cited a lack of money for child support.

64 percent of the respondents cited fear of commitments as the reason, while other reasons were almost irrelevant.

The reason in the third place was poverty, which 26 percent of the respondents opted for.

The aforementioned survey was conducted within the project "May Storks Return to South Serbia”, which is financially supported by the Ministry of Culture and Information of the Republic of Serbia.
