AS OF OCTOBER, PAYMENT OF WAGES ON NON-WORKING DAYS, TOO

Presevo, Bujanovac, Medvedja – As of this October, employers in Serbia will be able to pay wages to their employees on non-working days, too, as well as at nighttime.

“Citizens will immediately have the money paid into their accounts, which is enabled by the new "instant" payment system, which the National Bank of Serbia (NBS) is going to put into operation in October," Dragana Stanic, the General Manager of the Cash Payment System’s Office of the NBS, said for the “Tanjug” news agency.

“The workers will get their wages in a few seconds if the employer orders his/her bank to effect the payment instantly, since all banks offer this option to their customers, including employers, " Ms. Stanic said.

The past practice was that when an employer decided to pay wages to his/her workers on Friday afternoon, the money could not be credited to the account until Monday, or, if the payment day was a holiday, until after the holiday.

Ms. Stanic explained that, by order of the employer, the transaction would go through the payments system of the NBS in a few seconds, while the bank in which the citizens have their accounts would be obliged to immediately transfer those funds to the accounts of the clients.
