APPEAL TO PARENTS TO HAVE THEIR CHILDREN VACCINATED AGAINST MEASLES, SO THAT AN OUTBREAK OF THE DISEASE COULD BE PREVENTED

27. October 2017.

Bujanovac Dr. Afrodita Mustafa, a pediatrician and immunization coordinator at the Health Center in Bujanovac, said that by searching the records of the Health Center in Bujanovac, it was found out that 779 children aged up to 11 had not been vaccinated as part of the regular and mandatory immunization.

“We urge parents to bring their children for vaccination against measles, so that an outbreak of the disease could be prevented,” Dr. Mustafa said.

The doctor pointed out that the first dose of the MMR vaccine is given to children after their first year of life, while a booster dose is given when they are six and a half years old, or prior to their enrollment in primary school.

Immunization against measles can be done at the Bujanovac Health Center every day from 7 am to 7 pm.

Under the Law on Protecting Population from Infectious Diseases, which was adopted last year, vaccination in Serbia is obligatory. Fines ranging from 30,000 to 150,000 dinars are envisaged for the parents or guardians who fail to have their children vaccinated.
