ANALYSIS OF CITIZEN PARTICIPATION IN THE DECISION-MAKING IN PRESEVO, BUJANOVAC AND MEDVEDJA

Presevo, Bujanovac, Medvedja – The Center for Free Elections and Democracy - CeSID (Belgrade), the GO-JA NGO (Medvedja), the International Human Center NGO (Presevo) and the Civil Resource Center NGO (Bujanovac) jointly implemented the project "Support to Democratization in Presevo, Medvedja and Bujanovac", under the auspices of the European Union and as part of the EIDHR program. The project was aimed at improving democratization and the inclusion of vulnerable groups in the processes of political and other decisions of public importance in Presevo, Bujanovac and Medvedja.

The publication "Citizen Participation in the Decision-Making in Presevo, Bujanovac and Medvedja" is the result of the research conducted in order to determine the actual degree of citizen participation in political decision-making in these three municipalities, with a special emphasis on the participation of youth, women and vulnerable groups in the processes of formulation, implementation and the monitoring of local public policies. The subject of the research was the openness of the local self-governments for consultation and involvement of citizens in these processes; the existence of legal, procedural and structural assumptions at the local level for public participation; assessment of the interest of citizens and civil society organizations (CSOs) to participate in decision-making processes, as well as the identification of the most common forms of involvement and examples of good practice. The research was done in the period from June to July 2016.

The publication that contains a detailed analysis of the degree of citizen participation in political decision-making in these municipalities, as well as key findings and recommendations, was developed based on the conducted research.
