ANA BRNABIĆ: "SOME LOCAL SELF-GOVERNMENTS WILL BE ALLOWED TO HIRE NEW EMPLOYEES"

22. February 2017.

Belgrade - Ana Brnabić, Minister of Public Administration and Local Self-Government, said that there were currently no surplus employees in the public administration and that some local self-governments would be allowed to hire new employees.

She said that 24,000 people had left the public administration over the previous two years, while 6,500 of them were from the local self-government.

“We agreed that the number of employees in the public administration would be reduced by another 5,000 employees in 2017, who will mostly get retired, while we will try to make a reorganization in the important systems, such as in education, healthcare and social welfare, in order to improve their operation“, Minister Brnabić said.

She said that the analysis of all local self-governments had been done and that employment would be allowed in those self-governments where fewer employees were employed in the public administration than the allowed maximum. She also said that the local self-governments, despite the prohibition of employment, were still currently able to hire new employees, but only with the consent of the commission for additional employment.
