AMBASSADOR OF FINLAND INVITED ALBANIANS TO VOTE IN THE ELECTIONS

7. February 2014.

Bujanovac – The Ambassador of Finland to Serbia, Pekka Orpana, talked in Bujanovac with Mayor Nagip Arifi on the participation of the Albanians in the parliamentary elections scheduled for March 16, 2014, the local media reported.

At a press conference held in Bujanovac, to which journalists who report in the Serbian language hadn’t been invited, the Finnish ambassador said that "Finland, as part of the EU, is interested in supporting Serbia in the accession talks, and within the process, it is also interested in seeing some progress being made in certain areas in the municipality of Presevo."

Ambassador Orpana, who visited Bujanovac for the first time, urged the Albanian leaders to find common ground for participating in the parliamentary elections scheduled for March 16.

Ambassador Oprana stated that Finland would support and promote the resumption of the talks between Belgrade and leaders of the Albanian political parties from Bujanovac and Presevo, who mostly boycotted the parliamentary elections in Serbia. The leaders of the Albanian political parties discussed their possible joint appearance at the elections, but haven’t yet reached an agreement.
