7. October 2016.

Bujanovac  – During a meeting of the Gender Equality Council of the Municipal Assembly of Bujanovac,  the local action plan of the seven-member parliamentary body was unanimously adopted, while Aljubuljena Aliu from Veliki Trnovac, a teacher at the Bujanovac secondary school "Sezai Surroi" and a councilor in the local parliament, was appointed the Head of the said Council.

The Head of the Council said that all the activities that the local self-government should undertake in the following three years were specified in the local action plan, the development of which was financially supported by the European Progress program.

"Among other things, we should work on increasing women's participation in decision-making, on improving the fight against violence and on advancing women's health," Ms. Aliu said.

Members of the Council proposed to the Municipal Assembly of Bujanovac to consider their initiative for supplementing the local action plan. It refers to paying greater attention to the psycho-social development of children, including the creation of jobs for speech therapists and special education teachers in elementary schools.

Jonuz Musliu, the President of the Municipal Assembly of Bujanovac, who was running the meeting until the appointment of the Head of the Council, reminded the attendees of the meeting of the importance of the Council:

“The Gender Equality Council has a special role since our municipality is a multiethnic one. I hope that its members will put their efforts into contributing to the development and well-being of our local community. To that end, I expect that the Council will cooperate with other parliamentary bodies," Mr.Musliu said.
