ALBANIANS FROM SOUTH SERBIA BOYCOTT THE ELECTIONS

10. February 2014.

Bujanovac/Presevo/Меdvedja – The leaders of five Albanian political parties decided to boycott the upcoming early parliamentary elections. The stance on the issue isn’t unchanging, since the Party for Democratic Action (PDA), which is led by Riza Haljimi, will reach a decision on its possible participation in the elections on Monday, February 10.

The meeting in Presevo ended late Saturday night, but Saip Kamberi from the PDD said that the highest bodies of the party would make a decision on the issue on Monday.

He previously claimed that the Albanians should fight for their rights through the institutions of the system. Other representatives of the Albanian parties justified their decision by saying that the Albanians weren’t satisfied with what the Serbian government had done for solving the numerous problems of the Albanians from the three municipalities.

Rahmi Zuljfiju, the Leader of the Democratic Union of Albanians (DUA), said that the decision of the Albanian parties not to participate in the elections didn’t mean that they would urge the Albanian voters to boycott the parliamentary elections.

There are seven political parties in the area of Medvedja, Presevo and Bujanovac in which the Albanians from the region are gathered together.
