ADVISER TO THE COMMISSIONER FOR THE PROTECTION OF EQUALITY (CPE) ON DUTY IN BUJANOVAC

Bujanovac – On March 18, 2014, the Advisor to the Commissioner for the Protection of Equality (CPE) will be on duty on the premises of the Office for Free Legal Aid in Bujanovac, located at Karadjordja Petrovica 115, 2^nd. Floor.

The citizens will be able to ask the Advisor about specific issues and lodge complaints relating to discrimination, as well as to get better informed about the role and responsibilities of the CPE.

The tasks of this state body include prevention of all forms, shapes and cases of discrimination, protection of the equality of natural and legal persons in all areas of social relations, supervision over the implementation of the regulations on non-discrimination, as well as an improvement in the exercising and protection of equality.

The Commissioner for the Protection of Equality (CPE) is authorized to conduct proceedings on complaints in cases of discrimination committed against persons or groups of persons that are connected by the same personal characteristics.

The CPE is authorized to receive and consider complaints of discrimination, provide opinions and recommendations in specific cases of discrimination and pronounce statutory measures.

The Office for Free Legal Aid (Office for FLA) was established on December 5, 2012, as part of the project "Free Legal Aid in South Serbia", which is carried out by the Partners for Democratic Changes Serbia (Partners Serbia) NGO, in cooperation with the municipality of Bujanovac and the Bar Association of Nis, and with the support of the British Embassy in Belgrade.

Through cooperation with the Commissioner for the Protection of Equality, the project aims to further contribute to improving access to justice for the citizens of Bujanovac, Presevo and the surrounding area, as well as to build confidence and integrate different ethnic groups in the social life of South Serbia.
