A PLAY PERFORMED IN HONOR OF THE IRON REGIMENT

19. December 2018.

Medvedja – Thanks to the heroism of its soldiers, the second infantry regiment "Knjaz Mihailo" was called the Iron Regiment. A large number of its soldiers were decorated, while most of those decorated with the Karadjordje's star with swords medal were from the villages in the municipality of Medvedja. In honor of the heroes of the Iron Regiment, the Cultural Center in Medvedja, with the assistance of the amateur theatre from Lebane, performed a play.

The sound of a one-stringed fiddle is recognized firstly and heard the longest in the Jablanica district, so that people could celebrate and grieve over the heroism of their ancestors, which is heavenly, inordinate, and inexplicable. It is immortalized in the Second Infantry Regiment of the Morava Division, which the warriors themselves, with admiration and awe, called the iron regiment. This is a duty done for them on the 100 th. Anniversary of the victory they won.

“I remember my great-grandfather who was 104 years old and who told me a lot of these things at the time.  The responsibility is great, but it is also the honor to try to do something after 100 years and familiarize the inhabitants of the Jablanice district with the heroes who may have been unjustly forgotten, “"says Dominik Bogdanovic, the director and screenwriter.

With pride and honor each of them stood on the stage of the Cultural scene in Medvedja in order to revive the heroes who on Mt.Cer, and Mt. Kolubara, and even after the Albanian Golgotha, violently rushed towards freedom, so that they could breathe life into King Peter.

"I can say I am honored and proud to be in the play, although it is, in some way, a sequential role," says Miodrag Trajkovic.

"I am playing an unnamed colonel of the Iron Regiment and, of course, the role itself is such that I have to shout so much, so that I really enjoy it," says Sasa Gigic.

"I really like this show and I recommend to everyone that they should at least read the text," says Pavle Djordjevic.

In the heroic region, the Ministry of Culture gladly supported the show "Iron Regiment's Heroes".

"This is the third project that we are doing through the Ministry of Culture and Information. We have another one to do until the end of the year and I think that this year is just right for the project," says Nebojsa Jaksic, Director of the Cultural Center in Medvedja
