5,000 REFUGEES PASSED THROUGH PRESEVO OVER 24 HOURS

4. November 2015.

Presevo - According to the assessment of the Red Cross Office in Presevo, over 5, 000 refugees passed through the Reception Center for Refugees in the city over the past 24 hours.

Ahmet Halimi, the Secretary of the Red Cross Office in Presevo, said that the number of refugees who daily passed through the Reception Center in Presevo didn’t decrease and that over 5,000 people daily passed through it.

“The number of people is great, and the situation today is the same as the one yesterday, and the one the day before yesterday, since people are constantly coming in. Over the past 24 hours, the Red Cross Office in Presevo handed out around 4, 000 free food packages.  However, as the number of refugees has increased by 30 percent or more, the free food packages aren’t given to everyone, but in order of priority: to children, women, the elderly and the ailing", said Mr. Halimi.

Mr. Halimi also said that blankets, sweaters, footwear and hygiene packages are handed out to the refugees in Presevo.

“Refugees still don’t hang around in Presevo and there have been no problems so far. Everything works as it should and they are relieved when they come to Presevo.  I think that we, as a country, passed the exam in helping people", said Mr. Halimi.

According to the data provided by the Ministry of Interior, over 320, 000 refugees from the Middle East have been registered in Serbia since the beginning of the year, mainly at the Reception Center in Presevo,  which is their first stop upon entering Serbia.
