YOUNG PEOPLE DREAM OF JOB IN STATE FIRMS

18. July 2014.

Bujanovac - Private enterprise is a chance for young people, but they aspire to work in public companies, where there is no work. Around 4, 800 people are unemployed in Bujanovac.

The school year has finished. Young Serbs, Roma and Albanians spend their free time in the center of Bujanovac. There socialize there and share their experiences. According to them, cafes are the only places to go out to.

“I go out to cafes, play football with my friends, who are both Serbian and Roma. I also socialize on the facebook", says Sefet Amidi from Veliki Trnovac.

“With the exception of cafes, there's nowhere to go out to, and there is only one Serbian cafe ", says Milan Stojanovic from the village of Levosoje, which is situated near Bujanovac.

“We have fun here, near the community center. There is some good music, too. We hang out with both Serbs and Albanians and there were never any problems ", says Igor from Bujanovac.

Regardless of the differences, culture, language, customs, they are plagued by the same problems, which include the lack of jobs, cultural events and clubs.

“We don’t have the theatre, the cinema and youth clubs. Other cities have them, but we don’t", says Bojana Matic from Bujanovac.

Ljoran Memeti from the village of Oslare, near Bujanovac, adds that they lack the swimming-pool, where they could swim with their friends.

Unemployment and migration are the major problems. Young Roma and Albanians from Bujanovac usually go abroad, while Serbs go to Belgrade and Nis.

“They go abroad because of work, since there isn’t any here"says Dusan Ivanovski from the village of Levosoje, near Bujanovac. “I’ll finish off secondary school and then a two-year post-secondary school in Belgrade, where I’ll get employed", says Andjela Mihajlovic from Bujanovac.

“Young Roma live badly, there are no jobs or the money for education “, says Ljubisa from Bujanovac.

With the aim of helping young people and stopping the migration, the Youth Office organizes training courses and implements projects.

Vojca Aliju, the coordinator of the Youth Office, says that young people have where to go out to, since when the weather is nice, the center of Bujanovac and the cafes are full, but there is no work for them.

“That’s what they lack the most, as well as cultural events”, says he.

The sports hall has about 500 registered members, who are engaged in various sports, such as volleyball, basketball, soccer and table tennis.
