YOUNG ALBANIANS AND SERBS WANT TO HAVE AN ALBANIAN-SERBIAN DICTIONARY

18. February 2010.

Albanian and Serbian secondary school students want to have an Albanian-Serbian dictionary made, which would facilitate their daily communication. This is one of the conclusions reached at a workshop on the cultural needs of the young in Presevo, which was organized by the Center for Democracy and Development of South Serbia. Young Albanians and Serbs agree that it is a good idea to organize crash courses in Serbian and Albanian and they believe that a large number of the young in Presevo would be interested in them.

In addition, young Albanians, Serbs and Roma from Presevo have some ideas for their joint projects, but they need support of the grown-ups regarding provision of the funds and other conditions. Salim Salihu, a psychologist at a secondary vocational school, said that there are talented young people in all ethnic communities in Presevo that want to be jointly engaged in the sporting, cultural and musical activities, but that it was necessary for the adults to help them out with them.

During his participation in the workshop, Branko Delibasic, Head of the Coordination Body’s Office in Presevo, said that the Coordination Body had planned considerable funds to support the activities of the young in Presevo, Bujanovac and Medvedja. He once again said that open competitions for such and similar projects would be announced twice per year and added that some ideas, which had been heard at the workshop, could be turned into projects. These projects should be submitted to the Coordination Body for the Municipalities of Presevo, Bujanovac and Medvedja once it announces open competitions for financial resources.

The workshop in Presevo was organized as part of the project “Promotion of the Cultural Needs and the Spirit of Tolerance among the Young and Children of the Municipalities of Presevo, Bujanovac and Medvedja”, which is supported by the Coordination Body for South Serbia and the Center for Democracy and Development of South Serbia.
