WORKERS FROM PRESEVO, BUJANOVAC AND MEDVEDJA ARE SEASONAL WORKERS IN VOJVODINA

23. July 2014.

A daily wage of as much as 2,000 dinars, which is what laborers can earn, doesn’t provide a strong enough motivation for spending a day in the field. Jobs in the field are hard, so that among nearly 800,000 unemployed in our country, only those who have no other choice take them.

Cherry – gathering is currently underway. Although employers pay 13 dinars per kilogram of picked cherries, and skilled workers can pick from 100 to 120 kilograms per day, workers can't be found.

Vegetable and wine - growers also have serious problems with  labor, so that they even limit their production according to the number of available “hands“.

The problem with labor shortages was resolved by several farmers from Golubinci, which is a village near Indjija, who are engaged in tobacco-growing. After several years of unsuccessful searching for seasonal workers, they somehow got in touch with workers from Presevo, Bujanovac and Medvedja, for whom they provide accommodation and food for the whole  period of seasonal works, which last  from May to September, and sometimes until October.

During the summer, there are jobs for youth in the city, too.  According to the “ Boulevard“ youth cooperative, daily wages go up to 1, 200 dinars and more. There are offers to work in call centers, where young people earn from 20, 000 to 23, 000 dinars per month. Promotions are paid 200 dinars per hour, while there is an offer to work at petrol stations in all major cities.
