“WE KNOW WHAT CAN BE DONE AND BY WHOM IT CAN BE DONE”

13. May 2015.

Belgrade – “The situation in Kosovo and Metohija and South Serbia is quiet and the presence of increased security forces can’t be noticed, while we know what can be done in that territory and by whom it can be done, "said Zoran Stankovic, the President of the Coordination Body for the Municipalities of Presevo, Bujanovac and Medvedja, in the “Kaziprst B92” program.

“As in the previous period, the situation is normal and quiet, without any excess developments. There are no special security developments, either, people are behaving very correctly, as well as the governmental bodies and there are no indications that the situation might get complicated. Security assessments are made on a daily basis, as they were done in the past, too, while security services are constantly in the field carrying out assessment of the situation,” said Mr. Stankovic.

He pointed out that it was estimated that the situation was safe and stable. According to him, it was safe and stable and it would continue being so, while there were no indications that there would be any disturbances.

“There are as many people in the Ground Security Zone as it is necessary, while an increase in the number of personnel is caused by the fact that an armed conflict is going on close to the border. Extra precautions are taken in such situations, so that adverse events would be prevented.  Minimum security forces have been deployed.  The presence of increased security forces isn’t noticeable, while one may only note the increased control of people’s movements in the cities such as Presevo, but the population is calm, "said Mr. Stankovic.

According to him, the Coordination Body cooperates well with the local self-government.

"After what had happened in Kumanovo, I phoned the Mayor of Presevo, Ragmi Mustafa, to ask him whether they were ready for everything. He told me that they were preparing a session, so that we sent our representative to take part in it. Everything has been agreed upon and everyone knows their role. The politics don’t interfere with such issues and everything goes on normally”, Mr. Stankovic said.

Mr. Stankovic said that the Coordination Body was aware of the situation and of what might happen.

“There are people in every community that might cause excess developments. Such things can’t surprise us, because we know who can do them in this area.  The relations among the nations living in the region are relatively stable. For 2.5 years that I've been the President of the Coordination Body, there were no inter-ethnic conflicts. As for the people who came from Macedonia, I was informed by Ragmi Mustafa that around 700 people had come to Presevo. However, that number is smaller now, since most of them went back to Macedonia and we don’t expect a new influx of people," Mr. Stankovic said.
