TRAINING FOR YOUNG MALE AND FEMALE JOURNALISTS IN BRUSSELS (DEADLINE: JULY 15, 2019)

8. July 2019.

As part of the Youth4Regions program, the European Commission launched a competition for young male and female journalists reporting on regional cooperation. Eligible to participate are young people aged between 18 and 30, who have up to two years of experience in the media and male and female students of journalism from all members of the Union and neighboring countries, including Serbia.

“This is a unique opportunity for young journalists to gain experience and learn more about EU policies, especially the cohesion policy. This is one of the most visible activities of the EU, conducted at the level that is the closest to the citizens. I hope that this training program will inspire young journalists to write about projects funded by the Union and on how they influence the improvement of the daily lives of citizens in the field, "said Corina Krecu, the European Commissioner for Regional Policy.

The competition is open until July 15, while registration is done by completing the online form available at https://youth4regions.win/ . Within the application, it is necessary to write an article that is from 400 to 1,000 words long or to make a 2 to 3 minutes long video report on the effects of one of the projects of the European Regional Development Fund (which implies projects of interregional and cross-border cooperation) or the Cohesion Fund.

The Commission will select 33 best male and female candidates (one participant from each of the EU countries and five from the neighboring countries). In Brussels, they will participate in the Week of the Region events lasting from October 6 to October 11, where they will be trained to report on regional topics, visit European institutions and report from follow-up events.  The cost of travel and accommodation will be covered by the European Commission.
