THE DAY OF THE MUNICIPALITY OF MEDVEDJA MARKED BY A CEREMONIAL ASSEMBLY SESSION

21. May 2019.

Medvedja – The Municipality of Medvedja, along with its numerous guests, celebrated its day by holding a ceremonial session of the Assembly. Also selebrated were 75 years since the liberation from fascism, while awards were granted to the meritorious citizens.

Upon the ceremonial opening of the reconstructed municipal building, the formal session began in the Cultural Center with the “God Give Justice” anthem, and then the agenda was adopted by the acclamation, which consisted of giving acknowledgments to the prominent individuals who had contributed to the development of Medvedja the year before.

"We are proud of our multiethnic and friendly relations between the Serbs, Albanians, Montenegrins and Roma. We must leave the legacy of our total concert and harmony to the the generations to come, "Mr. Arsic said.

He said that residents of Medvedja were on the right track, which was the path of recovery and progress.

“This is evidenced by numerous infrastructure projects, improved living conditions of our citizens and large successes of our children. You can see for yourself that we are celebrating this year's Medvedja Day in the more beautiful Medvedja, which year after year becomes a place of a better and more pleasant life of our citizens. The steps were difficult and painful, while a day in one year was always too short for doing all the new jobs," Mr. Arsic said.

Mr. Arsic also noted that over the past years the roads were rebuilt, bridges were constructed, churches and mosques were built and renovated, as well as sports fields. Also, street lighting was put up, sports were improved, the kindergarten’s garden was renovated, the Health Center was reconstructed, as well as the municipality building, while two more schools and the Rehabilitation Center in Sijarinska Spa would be reconstructed soon.

“We could enumerate many more things, while the most important one is to believe in each other, to jointly move forward and leave some disagreements and differences of opinion behind us, because the general interest of the people of Medvedja is more important than anything else, "Mr. Arsic said.

Zoran Stankovic, the President of the Coordination Body for the Municipalities of Presevo, Bujanovac and Medvedja, also addressed the attendees of the event. He said that more funds would be allocated to Medvedja in the future.

“We have planned to earmark more funds for this year, about 53 to 54 million dinars, which will be spent on infrastructure facilities, primarily on the network of roads in the territory of the municipality of Medvedja. At the same time, we provided scholarships to 63 secondary school students this year, who will be receiving the amount of 6,000 dinars per month over a 10 – month period.  We also provided school supplies and school accessories to 72 first graders and we hope that we will continue doing this activity in the coming period, too, while the financial assistance provided by the Government of the Republic of Serbia is much larger,” Mr. Stankovic said.

Mr. Stankovic also said that the major preoccupation was the employment of a large number of people, considering that several companies, which had been in a poor condition, were bought.  He added that the state would help and employ a significantly larger number of people.

"I hope that Medvedja is an indisputable territory, that it is an obligation of the state to invest in that territory and that we will meet with even better results next year," Zoran Stankovic said.

After the award ceremony, a short cultural and entertainment program was organized, followed by the exhibition of Predrag Baja Lukovic’s paintings, who is also a native of Medvedja.
