The Beginning of the School Year in South Serbia

Source: Danas daily - Vranje, Bujanovac, Presevo – In comparison with the previous school year, a total of 2,532 first-grade students started attending primary schools yesterday in in seven municipalities of the in the Pcinj district, which shows that there are 440 fewer students this school year.  The Department of the Ministry of Education in Vranje said that 256 primary and secondary school teachers, whose total number of classes ranged from five to 95 percent, were surplus teaches, and that "the process of taking care of them" was underway.

The beginning of the school year was delayed for several days in elementary school "Braca Keljemendi" in Presevo, where the replacement of joinery is in the completion stage.

Due to the uncompleted works on reconstruction of the building, students of the "Bora Stankovic" grammar school in Vranje began the new school year on the premises of the "Branko Radicevic" elementary school and those of the secondary agricultural school.

There were no suspended or reduced teaching hours at any schools in the seven municipalities of the Pcinj district because of the teachers' dissatisfaction with the Ministry of Finance’s decision on a 2 percent salary increase.
