STRENGTHENING OF ECONOMIC POTENTIAL IN MEDVEDJA

29. June 2017.

Medvedja – With the aim of strengthening the economic potential and development of Medvedja, which belongs to the most underdeveloped municipalities in the Republic of Serbia, the current leadership of the municipality took a number of steps. It is noteworthy that significant progress in the sphere of the economic recovery of the municipality was made over the past three years.

Residents of Medvedja got a fountain in the center of the town, while a magnificent waterfall, which nature had given to them, was remade thanks to new access paths and little bridges. A visitor center will be constructed in the immediate vicinity, whereas project documentation for fixing up and installing lighting at the sightseeing platform is being prepared.

Nebojsa Arsic, the Mayor of Medvedja, says that they are intensively working on employing young people in Medvedja. The Government of Serbia made it possible, through providing subsidies to the Slovenian investor of the "Biogen" company, the opening of 110 new jobs in the municipality, so that 70 people will be employed at the company in 2017, as well as another 40 in the following year, the Mayor of Medvedja said.

The mayor of Medvedja also said that he had had a series of meetings, in the previous period,  with representatives of the Ministry of Mines and Energy on the topic of the recovery and regulation of the tailings pond  in the Lece mine.

"This is one of the most pressing problems in the operating of the mine. Our goal is to make the tailings pond completely safe or to have all the waste water or chemicals contained in it processed. We received an offer from a German non-governmental organization to participate in the project, of course, with the consent of the Ministry of Mines, "Mayor Arsic said.

In the coming period, the Mayor of Medvedja will meet with representatives of the Ministry of Agriculture and Environmental Protection, as well as with representatives of the mine, with the aim of finding a common solution to the problems of the Lece mine.
