STAKEHOLDERS COMMITTEE’S MEETING HELD

7. September 2018.

Belgrade - The issues related to improving the operation of the Subotica Faculty of Economics’ Department in Bujanovac were discussed at the meeting of the Stakeholders Committee, which was chaired by Lamberto Zannier, the OSCE’s High Commissioner for National Minorities. This year, around 60 new students are expected at the Department of the Faculty of Economics.

"It is very important that the students of the Subotica Faculty of Economics’ Department in Bujanovac receive a quality education in two languages," said Mr. Zannier and stressed the importance of those meetings because they provide a clear picture of the needs and advancement of education in that area.

Zoran Stankovic, the President of the Coordination Body for the Municipalities of Presevo, Bujanovac and Medvedja, said that the addressing of the needs of the citizens of those municipalities was a priority of the Government of the Republic of Serbia

“It is very important to discuss the needs and improvement of the functioning of the Faculty of Economics’ Department, as well as other perspectives and opportunities of providing quality education to young people in these municipalities. We provided to young people in these municipalities the possibility of being trained in their environment. However, a very important detail is the fact that there are some departments in these municipalities that enroll students but do not have accreditation, which is misleading both for students and their families”, Mr. Stankovic said.

High Commissioner Zannier and President of the Coordination Body Stankovic agreed that it was very positive that the Department of the Faculty of Economics was used by other organizations, too, and that it was a place where young Serbs, Albanians and Roma met and exchanged experiences and information.

The meeting was also attended by Andrea Orizio, the Head of the OSCE Mission to Serbia, Anamarija Vicek, the State Secretary of the Ministry of Education, Bojan Tubic, the Assistant Minister of Education for Higher Education, Aleksandar Cuckovic, the Dean of the Faculty of Economics’ Department, Saip Kamberi, the Mayor of Bujanovac, and Sukri Imeri, the President of the Albanian National Council. All the attendees took part in the discussion.
