SLOBODAN DRASKOVIC, MAYOR OF MEDVEDJA, PASSED AWAY

Slobodan Draskovic, the Mayor of Medvedja, unexpectedly passed away on Sunday afternoon at his native village of Vrapce at the age of 52.

According to the unconfirmed information, Mr. Draskovic died of the consequences of a heart attack.

Slobodan Draskovic was first elected the mayor of Medvedja in 2002, while his fifth term of office, which he, along with the group of citizens, obtained in the 2012 local elections, was running at the time of his death. . Over the past 14 years, he grew into the largest political figure of the municipality of Medvedja after the Second World War.

As of December 2000, Slobodan Draskovic was first a member, and then the Vice President of the Coordination Body for the Municipalities of Presevo, Bujanovac and Medvedja. At that position, he made an invaluable contribution to the peace process, as well as to the economic development of the municipalities of Presevo, Bujanovac and Medvedja.

During his two most recent terms of office, Mr. Draskovic worked hard on the economic and political strengthening of the municipality of Medvedja. Thanks to his initiative, production at the “Lece” mine was launched, whereas around a thousand new jobs were created in the municipality.

Mr. Draskovic left behind a wife and an under-aged daughter.

On the occasion of the tragic event, a session of the Municipal Assembly of Medvedja will be held at the hall of the Cultural Center in Medvedja at 11 am on November 24, 2014.

The coffin with the body of the Mayor of Medvedja will be exhibited at the hall of the Cultural Center from 1pm onwards on November 24, while the commemorative session will also be held at the Cultural Center in Medvedja at 10 am on November 25.

Mayor Slobodan Draskovic will be buried at his native village of Vrapce at 1 pm on Tuesday, November 25, 2014.

A book of condolences will be put out in the hall of the Cultural Center.
