SLAVKO CURUVIJA FOUNDATION’S CALL FOR APPLICATIONS REGARDING SUPPORT PROVIDED TO THE LOCAL MEDIA

13. February 2014.

Belgrade – "Slavko Curuvija Foundation" (SCF) announced a call for applications for providing support to the local television and radio stations "What does Serbia keep silent about?"

"Slavko Curuvija Foundation" (SCF) was launched by Jelena and Rade Curuvija, the daughter and son of Slavko Curuvija. With the help of friends from the NGO sector in Serbia and with the support of the "Rockefeller Brothers’ Fund" in New York, the Foundation began operating in November 2013. The Foundation is aimed at improving the quality of journalism in Serbia, supporting the local media and investigative journalism and at working with young people who are entering the world of journalism.

The said call for applications aims to encourage the local media to speak out on the issues that are important to the citizens and the local community, so that they could exert control on the local governments.

The applicants are required to present the topics that they will be dealing with, which haven’t been represented a lot in the media so far. Also, the proposed topics should address the concerns of the local communities through the examples of how the citizens could help solve the problems as a democratic control of the local authorities. They need to review the work of the local authorities and thus contribute to strengthening the role of the local media, as controllers of the government at the local and regional level.

The contest will be open until March 7, 2014, while the decision on which media will get the support will be announced at the official event marking the beginning of the foundation’s operation on March 27, 2014.
