19. November 2019.

Меdvedja – Senior research associates Danka Lajic Mihajlovic, PhD, from the SASA’s Institute of Musicology and Smiljana Djordjevic Belic, PhD, from the SASA’s Institute of Literature and Art conducted research within the project Protection of Singing alongside Gusle between the "Center" and "Periphery" in the Municipalities of Medvedja and Leskovac.

The project is being implemented by the Institute of Musicology of the Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts (SASA), which is supported by the Ministry of Culture and Information in cooperation with the Cultural Center of the Municipality of Medvedja, the Tourist Organization, the local self-government and the Association of Gusle Players.

With the aim of gathering information about the current state of the tradition of singing with gusle, several  gusle players belonging to different generations, from the most experienced ones to the students of the recently established school for young gusle players, were interviewed, while the interviews were held in Sijarinska Spa, Petrilje and Leskovac.

The results of the research are expected to contribute to further development of the strategies for the preservation of singing alongside gusle as a cultural practice, which in 2018 was listed on the UNESCO’s Representative List of Elements of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
