RAIN DAMAGES FRUIT

28. April 2014.

Vranje - Suzana Jerkic, an expert in fruit and grape-growing, said that there had been no low temperatures in the area of Pcinj District in the previous period, so that fruit trees weren’t damaged by frost. However, she also that frequent rains weren’t good for fruit trees, and that is why fruit- growers from the district are anxious about rains.

“The only problem that arises is the rainy period while pome fruits, mostly apples and quinces, are in full bloom, which may lead to lower pollination and fruit-setting, and hence to a reduction in yield”, Ms. Jerkic said.

However, it will be possible to accurately estimate the reduction in yield after the blooming of pome fruits is completed.
