PUBLIC CALL - for young jazz musicians to apply for South Serbia's youth jazz orchestra

7. March 2014.

The Nisville Foundation and the music schools in Leskovac and Nis  call on young musiciansm, who are aged from 14 to 21 and who are from Nis, Leskovac, Vranje, Vladicin Han, Bosilegrad and Bujanovac, to apply for attending a free jazz workshop, which is part of the "Jazz -Multicultural Expression“ project.

In addition to receiving the musical training in the field of jazz,  the young from different ethnic communities will be able to socialize at the workshop, as well as to play music and to get to know one another.

In each of the said places, young people will work with their local coordinators and practice the program that will, in each of their towns, be performed by them on April 30, which is the International Day of Jazz.   By August, three two-day meetings (in Nis, Leskovac and Vranje) of the workshop attendants from all the cities are planned, during which, based on the scheduled arrangements, they will practice their common compositions, such as the "When the Saints Go Marching In" standard, "Nisville Jubilation" by Dusko Gojkovic and "Watermelon Man" by Herbie Hancock (on whose initiative April 30 was included in the calendar of the UNESCO as the World's Day of Jazz).

All participants will together hold concerts in the places from which they come, including an appearance in Nis during the Nisville jazz festival,  which is part of the accompanying program  the "Youth Jazz Network".    The workshop organizer provides free transportation, accommodation and meals, both during the exchange concerts (joint rehersals in Nis, Leskovac and Vranje) and joint concerts in all six towns, as well as during the four days of Nisville.

The surprise for the participants in the project is free entry to the Nisville jazz festival. Also, at Nisville, the young musicians selected to participate in the project "Jazz - Multicultural Expression" will be able to attend the regular Nisville workshop, which will be held in the hall of the Nis Symphonic Orchestra.

The number of participants from each city is limited (5 persons), and in order to apply, it's necessary to fill in the form posted at www.omladinskajazzmreza.nisville.com.

The deadline for applications is March 24.
