The Ministry of Public Administration and Local Self-Government, in cooperation with the Republican Secretariat for Public Policies and the Standing Conference of Towns and Municipalities (SCTM), is implementing the project called "Local Self-Government for the 21st Century", which is supported by the Government of Switzerland.

As part of the project, the Fund for Supporting Inter-Municipal Cooperation Projects was established, within which the public call for project proposals for the establishment and improvement of inter-municipal cooperation was issued.

The public call is open to all projects that support inter-municipal cooperation (IMC) through the establishment of joint bodies, services, companies, institutions and other organizations, as well as through the assignment of specific tasks within the original competence of one self-governmental unit to another local self-governmental unit, in accordance with the law and the statute, and with the aim of organizing work more efficiently, improving the services and the quality of community life.  Inter-municipal cooperation, through the exchange of experiences, technical or institutional support and capacity building, can be established by all those local self-governments that find economic, cultural, social or other common interest in it.
