PROFITEERS SUBJECT TO INSPECTION

25. September 2015.

Presevo - Serbia received numerous commendations for its approach to the refugee crisis, but, unfortunately, there are always those who like to take advantage of someone else's troubles.  That is why the inspection services stepped up its activities in  Presevo and the surrounding area. Over the past two months, market inspectors conducted over 30 controls, sanitary inspectors over 40, while veterinary and traffic inspections carry out on-site controls on a daily basis. So far, 25 reports for initiating misdemeanor proceedings have been submitted, mainly those against shops and restaurants, but none against bus and taxi-drivers.

Presevo is a small town that has done a lot for the refugees, but they are aware that, as they say, there are some occasional profiteers.

Ragmi Mustafa, the Mayor of Presevo, said in connection with the subject matter that the local self-government had no responsibilities whatsoever in that regard.

The inspection services argue that the so-called illegal sales are problematic because it’s  difficult to prove them.

Slavisa Bulatovic, the Governor of Pcinj district, says:

“We receive information that there are illegal taxi drivers, but when such information reaches us and when inspectors go to the site in order to act in response, the situation on the site changes a little. We get even the information that the charging of people’s mobile phones and the like is charged, but that, too, is difficult to be proved.

So far, the Inspection Services have seized excise goods and fined shop-keepers and those engaged in the catering business.
