PRIME MINISTER MIRKO CVETKOVIC OPENS FACULTY IN MEDVEDJA - Oct 9, 2009

MEDVEDJA – The Coordination Body of the Government of the Republic of Serbia for the Municipalities of Presevo, Bujanovac and Medvedja, along with the Ministry of Education, and with the financial assistance of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and the support of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe’s Mission to Serbia, provided classes in mother tongues for students in Medvedja belonging to the Serbian and Albanian communities. Departments of Nis University’s Faculties of Economics and Law will be ceremoniously opened by Mirko Cvetkovic, Prime Minister of the Government of the Republic of Serbia, at 1 pm on Monday, October 12, 2009. The first matriculation books will be delivered to students by Milan Markovic, President of the Coordination Body and Minister of Public Administration and Local Self-Government, and by Zarko Obradovic, Minister of Education.

The opening of these extremely important faculty departments for South Serbia will be attended by Rasim Ljajic, Minister for Labor and Social Issues and the previous President of the Coordination Body, as well as by representatives of the diplomatic corps, OSCE Mission to Serbia and representatives of local self-governments and civil society from the Pcinj and Jablanica districts.

The opening of the Medvedja faculty is one of strategic priorities of the Coordination Body and the Government of the Republic of Serbia. The project is aimed at strengthening all ethnic communities and enabling quality education in Serbian and Albanian.
